Esses manuscritos eram muito comuns nessa regi\u00e3o e estavam presentes em diversos tipos de situa\u00e7\u00f5es sociais. Os tonalamatl, ou livros da conta dos dias e dos destinos, eram usados por s\u00e1bios especializados para realizarem progn\u00f3sticos sobre os mais diversos temas, como o destino de uma crian\u00e7a rec\u00e9m-nascida ou a sorte de um grupo que pretendia empreender uma guerra ou conquista. Os xiuhamatl, ou livros dos anos, relatavam hist\u00f3rias grupais desde um ponto de vista das elites dirigentes, em geral, seus principais produtores. Havia outros tipos de c\u00f3dices, que continham narrativas cosmol\u00f3gicas, registro de tributos ou ciclos astron\u00f4micos. Atualmente, os c\u00f3dices mesoamericanos originais se encontram em bibliotecas e arquivos de pa\u00edses europeus, dos Estados Unidos e, principalmente, do pr\u00f3prio M\u00e9xico, onde tamb\u00e9m alguns c\u00f3dices pertencem a comunidades ind\u00edgenas atuais e se constituem como objetos de conforma\u00e7\u00e3o de suas identidades comunit\u00e1rias. Por meio da exibi\u00e7\u00e3o de edi\u00e7\u00f5es fac-similares desses manuscritos, acompanhada de material explicativo e de palestras, a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o C\u00f3dices mexicanos: escrita, imagens e debates contribuiu para que estudantes, pesquisadores, professores e demais interessados conhecessem um pouco da hist\u00f3ria e da cultura dos povos amer\u00edndios que produziram esses livros, as quais, infelizmente, s\u00e3o muitas vezes objetos de pouca aten\u00e7\u00e3o ou de fortes preconceitos por uma significativa parte da sociedade nacional brasileira. A exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ocorreu entre 24 e 30 de Julho de 2017 no edif\u00edcio Eur\u00edpedes Sim\u00f5es de Paula da Faculdade de Letras, Filosofia e Ci\u00eancias Humanas da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo\u00a0e contou com a exposi\u00e7\u00e3o de dez documentos mesoamericanos.\u00a0Edi\u00e7\u00f5es fac similares de muitos desses manuscritos ind\u00edgenas est\u00e3o dispon\u00edveis nas bibliotecas da USP, como na Biblioteca Florestan Fernandes (C\u00f3dices Borgia, Cospi, Borb\u00f3nico, Vaticano B, Vindobonense, Dresden, Zouche-Nuttall e Chimalpopoca) e na Biblioteca do Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia (c\u00f3dices Azoy\u00fa, Borgia, Laud, Cospi, Vindobonense, Fej\u00e9rv\u00e1ry-Mayer, Zouche-Nuttall, Egerton ou Sanchez Sol\u00eds e Becker II, Xicotepec, Mendoza, Matr\u00edcula de Tributos, Dresde).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5f5b2ef e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5f5b2ef\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;,&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-93147f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"93147f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h5><h5><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">O que &#8220;Mesoam\u00e9rica&#8221; significa?<\/span><\/strong><\/h5><p>O conceito de Mesoam\u00e9rica se refere a uma grande \u00e1rea da Am\u00e9rica ind\u00edgena, cuja delimita\u00e7\u00e3o se fundamenta em caracter\u00edsticas culturais e processos hist\u00f3ricos que teriam sido compartilhados por in\u00fameras popula\u00e7\u00f5es no per\u00edodo pr\u00e9-hisp\u00e2nico e cuja vig\u00eancia avan\u00e7aria pelo per\u00edodo colonial. As caracter\u00edsticas hist\u00f3rico-culturais mais mencionadas para definir os povos mesoamericanos s\u00e3o: o cultivo do milho como base de alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de papel e de pulque (bebida alco\u00f3lica fermentada) a partir do agave (maguey, planta da mesma fam\u00edlia que o sisal), a utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de pr\u00e1ticas de autoflagela\u00e7\u00e3o e de sacrif\u00edcios humanos com finalidades pol\u00edtico-cerimoniais, o cultivo do cacau, a constru\u00e7\u00e3o de pir\u00e2mides escalonadas, a pr\u00e1tica do jogo de pelota e a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de armas de madeira com bordas de l\u00e2minas de pedra, principalmente obsidiana e s\u00edlex.\u00a0Al\u00e9m dessas caracter\u00edsticas, somam-se outras, mais ligadas ao campo do pensamento:\u00a0a utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de um preciso sistema de calend\u00e1rio baseado em dois ciclos concomitantes, a convic\u00e7\u00e3o\u00a0da exist\u00eancia de v\u00e1rios s\u00f3is ou idades anteriores do mundo, a divis\u00e3o do espa\u00e7o horizontal em quatro dire\u00e7\u00f5es e um centro e do espa\u00e7o vertical em treze c\u00e9us e nove inframundos, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de livros e a presen\u00e7a de tr\u00eas troncos lingu\u00edsticos (macro-otomangue, macromaia e uto-asteca). Geograficamente os povos que compartilhavam essas caracter\u00edsticas comuns habitavam, em tempos pr\u00e9-hisp\u00e2nicos, a regi\u00e3o que vai desde o centro de Honduras e noroeste de Costa Rica at\u00e9 o M\u00e9xico, onde seus limites s\u00e3o os Estados de Tamaulipas (rio Soto la Marina) e Sinaloa (rio Fuerte), e de uma a outra costa mar\u00edtima. Esta unidade \u00e9 marcadamente percept\u00edvel desde o chamado Per\u00edodo Cl\u00e1ssico (in\u00edcio da era crist\u00e3 ao s\u00e9culo IX) at\u00e9, pelo menos, o s\u00e9culo XVII.<\/p><p><img
